In a previous press release, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett welcomed American Airlines’ game‑changing decision to operate two weekly nonstop flights between Miami International Airport and Ian Fleming International Airport (outside Ocho Rios), starting November.

The announcement followed a high‑level meeting in Montego Bay between senior American Airlines executives and key Jamaican stakeholders, including:

• Transport Minister Audley Shaw

• Adam Stewart, Chairman of Sandals Resorts International

• Donovan White, Director of Tourism

• Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist

• Gary Sadler, Senior Executive, Sandals Resorts International

 

The nonstop service will be operated by an Envoy E‑175 aircraft, seating 76–88 passengers in business and economy class, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Minister Bartlett described the route as:

"A very valuable addition to Jamaica’s aviation needs… a great start that will encourage other airlines to fly into the Oracabessa/Ocho Rios area."

He further noted that this connectivity will:

"Boost tourism development potential for St. Mary and Portland and connect many members of our Diaspora closer to home."
